The Purpose of United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is

  • To know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ

  • To develop a creative, supportive fellowship and

  • To expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

University UMC has 4 active circles (smaller groups of members) meeting different needs:

Joyful Adams-Creel Circle This circle meets every third Thursday at 2PM in different members’ homes.

Mary and Martha Circle – Meetings for this circle are held every 2nd Thursday at 6PM at the home of one of the members.

Nell Hayes Circle – This circle meets as needed and most of the ladies in it are working outside of the home. This group sends cards quarterly to homebound and grieving UMW members and others.

GALS (Growing As Loving Servants) – The circle of young women meets periodically, usually at church.

Pease contact the church office at 337-477-2003 for more information and a circle contact person.

The UMW is very active at University UMC both within our church family and also within our community. The ladies feed approximately 200 students at the Wesley Foundation on McNeese State campus twice a year. Missions include sponsoring academic rewards, teacher appreciation and end-of-the-year parties in a nearby school. We collect soup labels and boxtops for schools to benefit Redbird Mission.

Members are involved in numerous other mission activities including making and distributing prayer shawls, collecting contents/assembling shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, working in the local food pantry, making dresses for impoverished children, participating in the literacy effort at a local school, donating supplies and money to several missions, as well as other projects. This group of ladies are truly God’s hands and feet serving others.
